My journey of discovery into aromatherapy began after being widowed with a young baby and shortly before being made redundant . I trained as an aromatherapist with the Shirley Price International College of Aromatherapy and graduated with a distinction in July 2001.
Essentially Holistic was launched the following year and since then I have also trained in other holistic disciplines, including Reflexology. I was awarded my Cert Ed in 2007
I became interested in ways to incorporate aromatherapy into ‘everyday’ situations. Having a son who enjoyed and benefited from aromatherapy, I looked at using aromatherapy with children. In 2003, I was granted money for a project in an Infant school looking at ways of incorporating aromatherapy and holistic therapies into everyday classroom activities. Its success led to a similar project at a local nursery school. Parents were included in the programme, with massage tuition being given for home use. I now also work alongside the specialist support team to provide aromatherapy to children aged 3 – 18 with specific needs
As I believe in inspiring learners through active learning, I began teaching aromatherapy on a freelance basis in 2005. My aim is to help students and therapists become passionate about the new knowledge they have acquired. I have presented CPD courses in the UK, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. In 2012 Essentially Holistic became an IFPA accredited school
Professionally, I spoke at the 2008 and 2016 IFPA conferences about my work in educational settings and was subsequently invited to speak at the AIA conferences in Chicago in October 2009 and Denver in 2015. I have held voluntary roles on the Professional Aromatherapy Association Boards.
I live with my son in Somercotes, Derbyshire. I enjoy gardening, crafting and foraging in my spare time, growing most of our fruit and vegetables on my allotment along with lavender, calendula and other medicinal plants which I macerate and distil for my own use. I work at home in log cabin in my garden which is surrounded by aromatic plants.
